Fancy-dress costumes & Shortbread

Mothers make a house a home
Home-grown veges and home-sewn clothes
Help mothers make their house a home.
Mothers need wisdom
Small children don't make the decisions
of where they go and why they go there.
Hence the importance of a mother's wisdom.

Memoirs from my mother  Brenda talks about sewing crepe-paper fancy-dress costumes

Brenda's 3 children at a primary school fancy-dress ball
My girls stood next to me as I sewed their fancy-dress costumes on the electric Singer sewing machine, pushing the knee-lever which made the needle whirr up and down. The primary school fancy dress ball was held at the school in Kedron, Brisbane. Sandra's costume was a strawberry, Denise's was a fairy -  all made out of coloured crepe paper, the sort of paper we used for our strung up Christmas streamers. Geoff was dressed as a Chinaman, but not in crepe paper. Sandra was about 5, Geoff was about 4, and Denise Robyn was about 3 years old.

Biscuits were made by many of the post war stay-at-home mums. Here are a couple of my mum's biscuit recipes. Shortbread was a Christmas treat!

May we bless the children in our midst with our love and with our talents
